This Week...
Below is a quick description of some of the activities in which students will participate or have participated this week. Please note that it is only an abbreviated description. Please ask your child for further explanation. Contact me if more information is required.
Week of: April 11 - 15, 2016
- Reading: Comprehension is the main point while reading. One way to ensure comprehension is to hear a student read out loud. When reading out loud, there should be a noticeable (appropriate) fluctuation in the voice for expressing various ideas in the text. For instance, questions in the text should sound like questions when read out loud. Please listen to your children read out loud (at times) and encourage proper expression to help with reading comprehension.
- Writing: We will finish up our report writing genre study this week. Students should have a typed 5 paragraph report about an animal. The next assignment will be to turn the report into a feature article with pictures and captions.
- Word Study: Latin Root: "bracchium" (arm): brace, embrace, bracelet, brachiate, brachiopod.
- Math: We will begin Unit 7 this week. Look for the Unit 7 Family Letter coming home on Monday. Remember, the math objectives for unit can be found on the "Report Card" page under "More" on this website.
- Social Studies: We will continue to study our last region: West. Ask your child what he/she is learning about the West region.
